After a long wait, China plays host of the most prestigious sporting event in the world.I was part of the 4 billion viewers of the grand opening ceremonies of this year's Beijing Olympics. Of course, I was not in the "bird's nest" but the show was simply marvelous.
At the start of the ceremony, there were exactly 2,008 drummers beating in synchronization. I'm thinking that the drums used were specially made because these emit light when beaten so if watched from the bleachers area, you would see a great spectacle of lights. Here's a more reliable coverage of that event. :)
When I was in Hong Kong with my sister and mom, we were looking for an Olympics store so that we can buy souvenirs like jackets and t-shirts. Due to the tight schedule, we had time to visit one near our hotel during our last day. Unfortunately, the store was closed. Even in the HK airport, we arrived just in time to see the attendants of an Olympics gift shop close their stall (that's where I realized that such stall existed in the massive airport). :( too bad.
The best thing that our family could have in terms of being in the Olympics is getting a commercial-free coverage of the sporting event. Thanks to our official sponsor (my sister), we were able to subscribe to such service. I'm looking forward to see how the tennis, gymnastics and swimming events would go.
I'm thinking that China will finally become the overall champion, what say you? :)
